Studies show that baking powder can extend your life
Bicarbonate is an integral component of baking powder and is also found in many fruits and vegetables. Scientists have discovered that this substance can help you live longer. It sounds unbelievable, but a recent study demonstrated this to be the case. Beginning in 1997, scientists at the University of Utah have been studying the effects of bicarbonate levels on health and longevity. They observed 2,287 volunteers between the ages of 70 and 79 over a period of 10 years, keeping an eye on participants until the beginning of 2014.
Dr. Kalani Raphael, author of the study, and his colleagues wanted to find out how acid-base (pH) balance and the amount of bicarbonate and carbon dioxide in the body affected life span.
The results showed that a low amount of bicarbonate in the body increased the risk of death in healthy people by 24 percent. Whereas a reading of a sufficient supply of bicarbonate levels in the blood as well as a healthy diet were positive indicators of a longer life span.
So if you want a longer and a healthier life, you should make sure to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Doing so will align your pH-value and provide sufficient bicarbonate. Apples, raisins, carrots, bananas, broccoli, lemons and spinach are all particularly good sources of bicarbonate.
Coffee is also helpful in bringing the levels of acids and bases in your body into balance.
Furthermore, you can add a ¼ teaspoon of baking powder to your green tea. Green tea contains catechins, theanine and caffeine. These substances not only contribute to an optimal pH-value, but also block the storage of fat and help you lose weight.
You can also get a real boost of energy from this baking powder drink. It not only helps against fatigue, but also improves athletic endurance. It also neutralizes accumulated lactic acids, which often arise as a result of training.
- ½ teaspoon pure sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 7 cups coconut water
- ½ cup lemon juice
- ¼ cup raw honey
First warm the coconut water and add the baking powder. Then add the rest of the ingredients, shake well in a closed container and pour the liquid in a glass.
For those who were thinking of increasing their cake consumption to get the benefits of bicarbonate, sorry! The long-term damage this might do to your figure and overall health would probably outweigh any positive impact from the bicarbonate. Best to stick to fruit, veg, and green tea!
